OzHosting is another Australian based web hosting company that does not appear to be interested in supporting small or personal websites at all; it is aimed at mid- to large- sized businesses interested in maintaining multiple websites or reselling space. It allows accounts to host multiple websites and e-mail boxes from a single account, supports one click installation of scripts, choose between Linux or Windows operating systems, and supports customized applications.

Prices are based on the operating system you choose, with Windows running $10 more per month than Linux. Scalable options allow you to increase your disk space, bandwidth, and other options. The pricing is outrageous to begin with however, starting at $40.00 per month. This is literally 10x the cost of most similar plans from competing providers. The website gives absolutely no indication as to why OzHosting charges this much though accounts include one dedicated IP address and allow you to purchase more if you need them.

Accounts also come with unlimited e-mail addresses, 50 GB disk space, 100 GB bandwidth, and daily backups. Linux plans include NGINX technology which improves Apache server performance. Although the site explains how NGINX technology improves server performance, it does not indicate the level of performance enhancement one should expect in clear terms (such as a percentage increase in speed or improved loading times, for example).

From what little information is given, OzHosting does not appear to support many applications though it does list several of the most popular packages for things like Content Management (CMS) and blogging. Other packages may be available or they may not, meaning webmasters may be forced to manually install applications that give them features like message boards, social networking functions, and the like. Many competing host providers offer these features for far, far less. OzHosting also provides services aside from hosting, most notably cloud hosting and products.

The customer support page is woefully inadequate, providing few articles on a handful of topics. You can contact agents by phone but it is long distance for anyone outside of Australia. e-Mail and live chat are also available support options, as is a public help forum. You can also follow the company on Twitter.

It is very hard to review OzHosting because the website gives such little information. A banner on the splash page prominently suggests potential customers call for a 30 minute consultation and a live chat will appear with a salesman asking how he can help you when you arrive. This is usually not a good sign.

OzHosting may be better than it seems but given the scant information it provides at its site and the insane pricing, it would have to be much, much, much better than it seems to justify the cost. Even then it does not compare to competing providers who offer more at far lower prices. It is obviously aimed at businesses but it is unlikely that most small businesses or start-ups can afford the high cost of doing business with OzHosting.
